Pupils' problem solving strategies at lower and upper secondary level

This thesis Pupils' problem solving strategies at lower and upper secondary level brings a focus on the issue outlined by the name. At the same time, it focuses on pupils' strategies to solve problems that are closely related to information literacy. At first I define basic terms for the area of word problems. Consecutively I focus on the theoretical knowledge from the area of problem solving strategies themselves. The content of the experimental part of the thesis is the survey of pupils' solutions of eight selected tasks, by which I was looking for an answer of the three basic questions of this thesis. My experiment is divided into two branches. The first branch of the experiment took place at the lower level of the multi-year grammar schools. The second branch of the experiment took place at the higher grade of the multi-year grammar schools and, to a small extent, at the secondary school. The theoretical part contains views of various authors on issue of problems and word problems. I present and compare these individual approaches. The result is the demarcation of the terms needed for the experimental part of the work. Tests for preparing 5th grade elementary school children to pass grammar school entrance exams

The main aim of diploma thesis is to create a collection of tests which helps the students to prepare for the admission exam to eight - year grammar school. The theoretical part of diploma thesis focuses on the admission exam in school year 2016/2017 and the analysis of mathematical didactic test. The practical part contains a processing of seven tests. Each test includes a task, a solution and an answer key. Furthermore, the research is processed here for which the second test from diploma thesis has been used. Even children participating in mathematical Olympiad can use the tests from diploma thesis for practising. The teachers can also make mathematics lesson more varied by the right choice of exercises.

The Communicative Approach to Second Language Teaching in Current Textbooks of Czech for Foreigners Jarmila Valková Abstract The general part of the thesis reviews the background, current understanding and key principles of the Communicative Approach to second language teaching with regard to their foundation in the Direct Oral Method. The objective, usual teaching techniques and textbook components of Communicative Language Teaching are compared to the ones used in the Grammar-Translation Method to show the essential difference between the direct and indirect language approaches to language acquisition and their implications for the character of textbook components. The research part of the thesis examines selected textbooks of Czech as a second language which are supposed to epitomise the following tendencies in the area of contemporary writing of textbooks of Czech for foreigners: a) consistent use of the strategies and textbook components based on the Grammar- Translation Method, b) eclectic application of Grammar-Translation strategies and components together with certain features of the Communicative Approach, c) coherent implementation of the Communicative Approach with related techniques and textbook components.
